XML features in the new version of this authoring tool include (paraphrasing Adobe) the ability to import, validate, and export XML files and DTDs as well as to prefix XML namespaces to element names when combining content from multiple sources; support for importing and exporting XML files containing Unicode (UTF-8/UTF-16) characters; automatic character mapping for Asian-language printing; automatic generation of CSS style definitions for XML files; DocBook 4.1, xDocBook 4.1.2, and XHTML sample applications for structured authoring; and an "XML Cookbook" for learning to work in structured authoring environments. According to a press release from Easypress and Techno Design, the Developer Edition of Atomik (a QuarkXPress-to-XML tool) "supports automation and integration through AppleScript, AutoPilot XT, and the XTension-to-XTension call interface." "The first 3rd party XTensions software" that uses the last interface, TCP-IP XT 1.4 "is a platform, location, database and development environment independent scripting command set that supports over 320 commands for controlling...QuarkXPress"; these enable "automated QuarkXPress-to-XML conversion, remotely, over any TCP/IP connection."
