Xerlin 1.0
The Xerlin Project is an open-source "XML modeling application written to make creating and editing XML files easier. It runs on any Java 2 virtual machine (JDK1.2.2 or JDK1.3). The application is extensible via custom editor interfaces that can be added for individual DTD's." According to the project site, "Xerlin contains contributions originally made to the Merlot XML editor project, the open source project on which Xerlin is based" (see previous weblog entries on Merlot).

Version 6 of FileMaker Pro is now officially available, and it offers some new functionality related to XML import and export.

XML with FileMaker 6
According to a MacInTouch item posted today, FileMaker 6 apparently has shipped to at least one recipient and offers some new functionality related to XML import and export. The FileMaker site doesn't yet mention the new version at the time of this writing, but may be worth keeping an eye on for details; perhaps this may presage a MacWorld NY announcement and release.

Now available from Apple, this QuickTime developer tool is a "movie import component that accepts as input an XML file, and constructs a movie from the elements in this file." The Apple page has sample code and downloadable source files.

This cross-platform, Java 1.1-based tool offers WYSIWYG editing of rich text; the current version offers enhanced XHTML support as well as XML-based user interface components and language localization. It can insert well-formed XML tags, but does not yet support validation against XML DTDs.
